Butterflies

I work in a lab with monarch butterflies. It's pretty interesting. I'm studying the successive brood migration of monarch butterflies as they make their way up to Wisconsin. I usually do not handle live monarches, so what I get to do is dissect the butterflies as they are caught in different parts of the world. Monarch butterflies can be found all the way down in Bolivia, up to Wisconsin. Male monarches of a characteristic black spot on their forewings. Monarches can lay upwards of up to 100 eggs (at least from my current observations). This one up top is feeding on milkweed.

The pupa are very sturdy and are usually fixed to a leaf of some sort so that when the catepillar comes out, it has something to eat. It's amazing how insects can find their way back to a place just by their current adaptations. They don't really look very complex: two sets of wings, a abdomen, antennae, and a thorax. That's pretty much all they need to figure out where they need to go. It's such a simple creature but so different from being a human.

LOST

Most of LOST is shot in Hawaii. I've dug up a few scenes from the upcoming season. Some of the pictures seem to indicate a large dinosaur bones scene and possibly dinosaur looking eggs in another (I'm beginning to think that the larger object in the background is dinosaur poopoo. We all know what happened the first time the castaways made camp on the beach. Some loud noises and shaking trees scared the bejesus of everyone watching the show. We never really found out what the creature was but it would later be that thing that killed their pilot.

We will not know until the season begins again next year, but I think we can count on discovering more of the island's mysteries very soon.

FRANK THE CRANK WINS IT!!

Frank the Crank beat Ryan this weekend! His next bout will be defending his title in the philippines. In other news, Manny the Enforcer Chong was handed a loss in his PXC 13 fight at the UOG fieldhouse. Better luck next time Manny.

PXC 13

This is the match I've been waiting for. It's this fight that will really determine whether Frank the Crank can recover from his first loss. He'll be fighting Ryan Biggler from Guam. It should be a good fight. Also looking forward to seeing Kuki Alvarez back in action. Here are some pictures from the weigh in on Guam. The fight will be held at UOG over the weekend.

Colt Brennan for Heisman!!

121. That's the lucky number that Colt Brennan tied when he set the NCAA record for TD's thrown previously held by BYU QB Ty Detmer. That game against Fresno was as close as they come and hawaii has alot of close games this year that could have broke their season. Colt has held it together though. He is a phenom. I remember reading a piece in the New York Times that he was once destined for jail and is now encouraging kids to do the right things by staying in school and staying out of trouble. He's a role model and doing Hawaii proud. Right now, Colt is a serious Heisman trophy candidate and if his success on the field continues, will be a great NFL QB.

Here's the pic of Brennan being walked off the field after a fierce hit that left Brennan unconscious for a few seconds.

WHO'S GOING TO WIN THE HEISMAN NOW??

Now that I've seen every little thing that could possible happen in college football, I believe the real question is whether the University of Hawaii will be going to a big time bowl game this year. I seriously think they have a shot. Alot of other people think they still have a shot. I have to believe it.....

Let's go back to some of the early leaders who ended up being duds:

Michigan vs. 'you know who' - OUT
Notre Dame vs. everybody- OUT
Nebraska vs. Memorial stadium blowouts - OUT
Boston College - OUT
Ohio State vs. the unranked Illini - OUT
USC vs. Stanford???!!! - OUT

How many more weekends of these upsets are there left in college football??? Who could be next?!

Trench Warz VII

The heat of battle was on as Iakopo and Fitial threw punches in the main event of Trench Warz VII. This match was a no brainer as Fitial had just come off of a tournament in Korea at the Jangchung gymnasium. It was a loss but there was no doubt that there would be something learned. The Iakopo vs. Fitial rematch was highly anticipated for MMA fans. And it was a great show.

The match was temporarily stopped by 'Crank' midway but that didn't stop Fit 'The Hit' from finishing off Iakopo with a barage of blows on a covered up Iakopo. There was no love lost between these two fighters but it will probably make Iakopo think about entering the ring for another re-re- match.

Other notable matches saw the guam bred Ryan 'the dentist' Urquizu duke it out with Simon Sebuu. Urquizu was under fire early from Sebuu but the more skillful dentist took his time to set up Sebuu. This undercard was definitely a crowd favorite here in Saipan.

His record before entering the octagon had been 3-1-0 as reported by FCfighter.brinkster.net. His previous loss was to Ted Vida back in October 2000 at the UOG Fieldhouse. This win imroves his record to 4-1-0.

The recent win of the dentist versus Guam monster Wenju Bamba in 2006 is also fight to remember.
